PRAT is a fictional story that uses the official history of the Naval Battle of Iquique as a platform to question who we are today and what our role is in the construction of our reality. Through this historical figure, Teatro de Chile seeks to challenge the concept of the hero, the historical imposition of assuming a role, the notion of patriotism and success, based on a well-known anecdote.
The action takes place on the eve of May 21st. A Captain, barely 16 years old, is in charge of a peculiar crew aboard the Esmeralda. This is a teenage Prat who neither intends nor wants to become anyone's hero. However, the official story, the confrontation with the enemy ship, is inevitable. Prat, immersed in profound contradictions in the face of this terrifying event, must decide whether to embrace his historical role or rebel against it, with the possibility that rebelling against it is also a form of submission.
